User Filter - NOT Scheduled for Shift on Date

Hi Team,

One this that would be super helpful would be an addition to the user filter under the "Volunteer - Shift Date" filter to allow us to select volunteers who are NOT scheduled for a specific day. I've been using the email blast feature to email folks when we need additional volunteer support for a certain shift (let's call it "Shift X" for the sake of clarity), but I don't want to spam the folks who are already signed up. Since there is no way to filter for "signed up for Shift X on this date" but only "opportunity response" in general and "shift date" in general, I end up including folks who are already scheduled to attend the shift I'm trying to recruit for. It would be so helpful to be able to filter by "Does not have shift on this date" so that only folks who are not already scheduled are getting the email asking for additional volunteers.

In general, it would be awesome to have more "negative" options in the user filter feature, like "has NOT responded to Opportunity X" similar to the "Fan" response filter where you can select to look for someone who either is a fan or is not a fan of a certain program.

Last request, sorry this is turning into all my dreams for the user filter in one post. It would be so helpful to be able to filter by specific shift. This is similar to my initial request, but I find that I can  only filter by folks who have responded to a certain opportunity at some point, and not to a specific shift within that opportunity. When I'm trying to get 10 or 15 additional people for a shift, I want to be able to include folks who have participated in that opportunity in the past, but not those who already signed up for the specific date I'm trying to fill.

I hope this makes sense, don't hesitate to reach out for clarification. Thanks for all you do, I so appreciate all of you! :)

Hi Grace,

Happy Friday! Thanks so much for detailing your requests to add and improve upon the User Filter. Here are the requests I will log for you on my end for the team to review together:

  • Addition of the option to filter for users that do not have a shift response on a given date or for a specific need (For example: And > Volunteer > Shift Date > Does not have a shift on and And > Volunteer > Need Response > Has not responded to)
  • In addition to the last request, generally more options added to the User Filter in order to reach out to those that have no interacted with certain areas of the site (needs, events, etc.)
  • A way to filter by a specific shift on a specified date. Currently, there is only a way to filter for the need response plus the shift date, but not a specific shift within the given day:

I hope these encapsulate what you are looking for here! If I missed anything, please let me know.

Thanks again!

That sums it up perfectly, thanks so much Shonie! So grateful for all the support you and your team provide!

Hi Grace,

No problem at all, thanks for confirming that this looked good to go on your end and always adding your thoughts to our forum.

Hi Shonie and Team!

I just wanted to reiterate how helpful this option would be. I frequently send emails to folks who have responded to a certain opportunity in the past, if we need help filling that shift for an upcoming day. Currently, if I want to email everyone who has responded to "Opportunity A" in the past, it will include everyone scheduled for the upcoming shift I'm trying to fill, which results in everyone currently signed up emailing me back and complaining that they're already on the calendar or asking if their signup was deleted by mistake. It would be so nice to have the option to exclude folks already on the calendar for that day so that no one gets confused about whether or not they're still signed up, and so we don't have to waste time reassuring them that the schedule is still intact. With the blanket email opt-out, I also don't want to spam people with irrelevant messages and prompt them to unsubscribe from all emails because they frequently get asked about shifts they're already signed up for.

Thanks again,

Grace

Hi Grace,

Thanks for adding your thoughts here! Just to make sure I am being as specific as I can with your request, would it be most helpful for your use case here if there was a "does not have shift before" and "does not have shift after" options for this filter (screenshot below):

I believe that kind of option, paired with the And > Volunteer > Opportunity Response > has responded to filter would get you what you are describing here. Let me know if this is correct or if I am missing the mark!

Hi Shonie,

Thanks for the response, sorry it's taken me a month to reply!

I think what you are describing would work, but it would be even easier to just keep the options to binary with "does not have a shift on DATE" so that if I'm sending out a call for additional volunteers, no one on the schedule for the day we need help is going to get the email if they're already on the schedule that day.

I hope this makes sense.

Thank you!

Hi Grace,

I totally understand, and the "Does not have" option is more user-friendly as well. I have made notes on this on my end!

I hope you have a lovely holiday,

I just want to chime in and say that I second this suggestion from Grace! This would be incredibly helpful for us as well! Just as Grace described, the binary option of "does not have a shift on DATE" would be perfect.

A filter like this would also be helpful on the "View Available Volunteers" section when looking at the Scheduling tool. I want to avoid sending repetitive recruitment messaging to folks who have already been recruited.

Hi Natalie,

Thank you for letting us know you're also in favor of this feature! I agree it seems this would be useful in a lot of ways, for many organizations.

I'll add your idea of adding this filter to the Scheduling tool as well--that's a great use case for it! Thank you for suggesting that!

Have a lovely rest of your week,
