Ready to set up an account on a Get Connected, Campus Connect, Corporate Connect, or Community Connect site? When you sign up, you'll be asked to indicate the causes you are most passionate about, as well as your volunteer interests. By providing this information, you'll make it easier for your Connect site to recommend the organizations and volunteer opportunities that match your values and preferences. You'll also have a chance to "fan," or follow, one or more agencies that are registered on the site!
Note: Your site may not feature all of the steps described here. Your site manager has the ability to turn off certain steps, and their choices will be reflected in your sign-up experience.
Note: If you are registering on a disaster response site, your steps will be slightly different. Click here to learn about that process.
First, Create Your Account
Begin by going to your local Connect site and clicking the Sign Up button, located at the top of your screen.
Note: The colors on your screen may differ from those shown in the image above.
You are then taken to the first step, Create Account.
- Enter your name, email address, and any other requested or required personal information. If you want to sign up using your Facebook account, you can do so if your site has that option.
- Type a password in both the Password and Confirm Password fields.
Note: Passwords must be at least eight characters long and are not case-sensitive. Most Connect sites do not require a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters.
- Click Create Your Account.
Next, Select the Causes You Want to Support
For this next step, you're asked to indicate the causes you're passionate about. This information will help your Connect site inform you of the agencies in your community that support the same causes.
Causes are displayed with their icons in a grid similar to the example shown below.
Note: Depending on your site's settings you may have the option to skip this step by clicking to complete the registration and continue, as shown above.
When you select a cause, it will be highlighted with a heart.
Click the button to Continue.
Note: Click here to learn more about causes.
Next, Select Interests or Skills
For this next step, you're asked to indicate your volunteer interests, to include the skills and talents you can use in volunteering. This information will help your Connect site inform you of the volunteer opportunities in your community that match your interests and could use your skills.
Interests are displayed with their icons in a grid similar to the example shown below.
Once you have selected at your interests, click the button to Continue.
Note: Click here to learn more about interests.
Finally, Fan an Agency (or Two, or More!)
You're not required to fan an agency as part of sign up, but you'll want to fan any agencies that you're interested in supporting through volunteerism. Once you've fanned an agency, you'll receive emails whenever that agency posts new opportunities or events.
To fan an agency, click on it. Once you've selected it, the agency box is highlighted and shows a heart.
Once you have fanned one or more agencies, click the button to Continue. Click here to learn more about being an agency fan.
Is Your Site Asking for Qualifications?
If your site posts volunteer opportunities that require certain qualifications (such as a driver's license or required training), it may ask you to answer a question or show proof of a qualification in order to have access to those opportunities. Answer any applicable or required questions, and your site manager will review them and mark you as "qualified" or "not qualified." For more information on qualifications, check out these articles:
Once you have completed this section (which may not show up in your registration if your site doesn't use qualifications), click Finish Sign Up to complete the sign-up process.
... And You're Done!
Click the Continue button to go to your Dashboard. Here are a few articles to help you get started now that you're signed up:
Note: If your local Connect site has text-messaging capabilities, you'll see an option on the last page to validate your phone number so that you can receive text message from the site.
