Thanks so much for laying out your request here and how it would be helpful for your users and organization. You are correct, the app works on a more individual level, and does not support a user checking in a team as they can using the check-in kiosk.
I'll go ahead and add this to our notes to review at a future Enhancements meeting.

Hello,
Our episodic volunteers are interested in using the App to check in to their volunteer shifts. To my knowledge, only individuals have the capability to check in using the app. We would love the ability for a single individual to check in their team on the app (just like on the kiosk).
This would help...
1) Our volunteer coordinators check in the 40+ volunteers per shift. Create a smoother process as there are more avenues to check in their team
2) retain volunteers because more would download the app
3) Team leaders are they're organizing all their team members during check in. Additionally, it would help corporate community engagement leaders that sign up their colleagues, but may not attend the volunteer shift.
Let me know what you think of this suggestion and if there's any more information you may need.
